Pantone Color of 2015 – Marsala

Happy New Year everyone!

Our very first blog post of the year at Red Knot is the introduction of Pantone’s Color of 2015 — Marsala.

The hue is named after the Italian fortified dessert wine Marsala. Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute expressed that the warm brown and red undertone “gives the feeling of groundedness, strength, and confidence”.

This versatile color exudes sensuality, yet it is nurturing; will make a bold statement, yet it is still sophisticated. Marsala is also appealing to both men and women. In fashion, it’s open to experimentation from apparel, shoes, accessories, to beauty palettes. In home design, it can give any space the feeling of warmth and comfort, but depending on its surroundings, it still has the ability to transform an atmosphere into modern, transitional, vintage, and even playful!

We created an inspiration board to get you in the mood and take a sip of the biggest color trend of the year!

Here are some ideas to incorporate the color Marsala into your home.

*Eisemen also stated that Marsala is “nurturing and fulfilling”, therefore it is a “natural fit for the kitchen and dining room, making it ideal for tabletop, small appliances and linens throughout the home.”  Time to update those placemats, tableware, candles…

*It can also be a great color choice of paint in the bathroom, creating an elegant contrast between Marsala walls and that white sink and toilet seat.

*In the bedroom, Marsala can create a comforting and relaxing atmosphere by combining it with deep reds and browns.

*Even a small space could feel warm and cozy when Marsala is coordinated with other warm hues, such as reds, yellows, oranges and true browns.

*For a pop of color, think Marsala and turquoise! A turquoise sofa and accent chair with Marsala pillows (or vice versa), complete it with an accent rug in Marsala, teal, or yellow.

10 Things We Are Thankful For

Thanksgiving is almost here!

Celebrated every fourth Thursday of November, Thanksgiving is a day spent with our loving families and gorging ourselves in the biggest feast of the year! Turkey, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, and gravy… yum! It’s a time for reflection on the current year,  and the many abundances it has brought our way. Of course, let’s not forget to be thankful.

Here at Red Knot, we have so many things to be thankful for. So far, 2014 has been such an amazing year for us. A new concept established by the best home furnishings retailer in Hawaii, C.S. Wo and Sons, and brought to life by equally talented individuals in our management, merchandising, advertising, operations, and corporate divisions. We are thankful for the very stylish, creative, and oh-so-fun furniture and accessories we discovered at market. We are thankful that they are now displayed in our showroom, thankful that we are able to share them with you through our two locations, as well as digital and social media.

Most importantly, we are thankful for you— our design-savvy shoppers who appreciate great design at affordable prices.

Speaking of great design, our team rounds up their absolute favorite pieces here at Red Knot. Below are 10 things we are thankful for:

1. a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.  2. a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.

Being the new kid on the block within the furniture and design community, is no easy task. To celebrate the coming of Red Knot’s modern affordable design options to Hawaii, we launched an Instagram contest: 500 Reasons to Follow Us. Our Instagram followers were given the chance to win a $500 Red Knot gift certificate. The response we received was amazing and it was encouraging to see we were not alone! We shared a common interest with so many people who craved fun affordable designs. And now our Red Knot community is thriving with design-savvy personalities.

At the start of October, we announced Michael Pistono as the lucky winner of 500 Reasons to Follow Us. We had the pleasure of meeting Michael at our Aiea store to snap some fun photos of him and our Red Knot team. Congratulations Michael and we look forward to seeing you again in our home!
