The Nailhead Trend

A traditional design that goes back over 400 years is still getting a ton of attention.  Since its appearance in the 17th century, we’ve seen it all over- in all works of furniture, decor, and even fashion.  And trust us when we say it is not tacky.

It’s actually… nailheads.

Nailhead

The nailhead trend was introduced primarily in upholstered furniture as a practical way for craftsmen to secure fabric or leather to the wooden frame.  Trims such as gimp were also added beneath the nails to conceal tacked upholstery.  Attention to detail is important as craftsmen need to ensure each nail head is perfectly spaced.  The first puncture of the nailhead is vital to avoid damaging the upholstery.  Think, the timeless Chesterfield sofa.

Today we see nailhead and rivets as decorative elements, evoking history and allure in any piece.  From modern to traditional design styles, it is no longer just for upholstery. The nailhead trim can be seen in occasional tables, headboards, dressers, and other accent furniture.  It gives definition to the shape, texture and color of the piece, accentuating the space.

Here’s some of our lineup from Red Knot:

NailheadTrend

Aren’t they absolutely stunning?  It’s no wonder decorative nailheads continue to be a growing trend in the furnishings industry.  It’s an extra detail that makes a statement, adding glamour with a little bit of edge.

So if you want your furniture to be a stud, go nail ’em.

Get The Look for Less – The Chesterfield Sofa

The Chesterfield sofa is more than just a classic piece of furniture.  It is historic as it is luxurious.  Named after the Earl of Chesterfield in the 1700s, this sofa has been around for hundreds of years.  Created and handcrafted in endless forms and fabrications throughout a span of four centuries, the Chesterfield retained its signature elements – button tufting, rolled arms, rivet trims, and low bun legs.

As styles vary, so do prices.  At Red Knot, we stand by our standards – to provide you savvy dwellers value and quality at affordable prices.  Our Chesterfield sofa is a steal compared to industry designer pricing.  How awesome is that!

And now — for our Splurge VS. Steal feature.

Inspired by Madison Modern Home‘s staging project featured on Houzz,  we recreated this living room with our Chesterfield sofa as the focal point and used other Red Knot pieces.  The Chesterfield sofa gives off a modern twist with a little bit of texture play when paired with a cowhide rug, glass coffee table and fun pillows and tabletop accessories. We had so much fun recreating this look!

Rule Breakers – Wear White After Labor Day

Fashionistas beware. It is almost Labor Day, so that means wear as much white as you can, because after Monday, September 7th, you can no longer wear white.

Atrocious, isn’t it?

Who came up with such a thing? With a mixture of social, political and seasonal factors dating back to the 1800s, the wealthy class wanted to clearly define themselves from the rest of the population. They set out to create a belief that white clothing is worn during the summer months, starting on Memorial Day and lasts until Labor Day. Any day after that is considered fashion faux pas.

Because it declutters the mind, the color white projects creativity.

Through creative efforts, we get our work vibe on here at Red Knot every day (holiday or not) and we have to disagree with this tradition. We love bending rules to support wearing the color white year-round. Especially since it seems like it’s only getting hotter and hotter each day, white is our go-to color to beat the heat!

Inspired from this debate, we’d like to introduce our white furniture and accents from Red Knot, because we just can’t let them go…

All That Glitters Is…

…gold… and silver. They shine, they sparkle, and yes, they’re luxurious!  In home design metallics are no longer just festive accents during the holidays. Modern and chic, whether in the spring or summer, gold and silver brings a dash of style and regality like no other colors.

How do you incorporate this glitzy trend in your home?  Read below for some tips.

METALLIC 101

They might be flashy, but they can also be considered neutrals because they work with any color palette. Although, keep in mind metallic tones are reflective in nature. So it’s important to allow them to be the star of their own show, and make them pop. Gold and silver can make any space gleam worthy, you have to literally, make them shine.  As accessories, the most dramatic impact is done in small doses. Otherwise, it will be overwhelming.  If you decide to go bigger, as in metallic furniture, then by all means go BIG! Then keep everything else neutral. Lastly, you can mix and match gold and silver. It adds texture and creates a history- a not so monotonous “I actually live here” look.  Like everything else, it’s all about balance.

GO FOR THE GOLD

Black and gold = sexy and lustrous. For fashionistas, think the LBD with a gold statement necklace. Rich gold also works well on rustic brick walls as it create a contrast of whimsy. Achieve this look by placing a gold starburst mirror against urban brick walls. For a sunny and more inviting atmosphere, play up yellow with gold.  For a feminine touch, go for light gold and glass, such as our Rachel Occasional Table Collection here at Red Knot.

Silver works great with floral patterns as it softens the palette. Decorate with white tabletop accessories to enhance the silver. Cool shades of blue or white with silver and chrome accents creates a sleek and polished look, however you can warm up the atmosphere by adding warm tones of gold.
